Hypoestes Experiment

Hey everyone!

I was excited when I first received the Hypoestes plant in class. My plant was small when i first received it and only consisted of Pinkish leaves. I cleaned the roots of the plant and inserted it into a suitable container with clean tap water. After about three days I could notice a change in the quality of the leaves of the plant. It was about 11cm tall. A week later a for of the big leaves started to discolour and some fell off. However, while that was happening tiny new shoots were growing at the same time. I noticed that all the new leaves were green with pink spots on them instead of purple leaves with pink spots on them. The quality to date is not good as the leaves are dying quickly and the new leaves are partly healthy.

My red speckled leaf hypoestus plant, which I've decided to call Clint, started off with rapid growth after I proceeded to put it in the water. At first I left it on the window ledge where it received midday sun, until the evening. I realised that it didn't seem very "happy" in the sunlight, as the leaves seemed to wilt slightly. I then took it out of the sun and placed it on a table in the living room near to the window. It seemed much happier, new shoots continued to grow and up until now Clint is losing very few leaves. The plant tends to lean towards the window slightly, but as soon as I place it in sunlight, it wilts. I think its bipolar. Also the new leaves that are forming are not as bright as the older leaves which grew while the plant was still in soil, this could be due to a lack of nutrients in the water. So far, there has been no presence of flowers.

The Red Hypoestes

My plant, unlike others it seems, has made minimal changes since it has been taken out of soil and placed it's water filled container. It appears to have gotten more stout, but has not grown taller, or produced any new leaves. The remaining leaves however, have lost some of their vibrancy. This baffled me, considering that they should be getting enough sunlight, but probably lack in nutrients. I gathered this because the only plant that has grown quite rapidly actually, have been the roots. This is most likely because they are in search of more nutrients.

i was given hypoestes plant to observe under a condition we have created by getting rid of all the soil and cleaning the roots, i then submerged the roots in water and started observing it. the plant is currently growing well but its growing laterally which is very unusual. i leave the plant on a window sil the plant doesnt get much light, i change the water twice a week, so far about 10 leaves have fallen off and about 15 new shoots has grown since i have recieved it.

Lorindes growth

Hey im Remano and i named my plant Lorinde, first thing i did was clean the roots, than let it rest in a 2leter bottle with the roots in water, i have seen slow but good growth, the new leaves tends to have a lighter colour than at first, also roots are more than it was in the start, i talk to Lorinde every day and tell her bout my day cleaning her water once a week, i placed her close to my moms plants for company, close to the window for sunlight, Lorinde has lost some leaves but shes still doing well

Meet Bob, the plant

Hi everyone!
My name is Abongile, and I named my plant BOB. He is one of the green plants, and I"ve been recording data on his wellbeing for the past two weeks. After comparing the data with other people I realised that Bob is doing just fine, he is has new shoots and a few leaves falling every other day. An interesting observation that I made was the difference in the colour of the old leaves and the new leaves. The new leaves appear more greener than the old leaves. Also, some of the leaves appear to be losing colour and are turning yellow.

The hypoestes palnt

In the first week which we received our plant,(Hypoestes Shrub)The roots of the plant was cleansed with clean water to remove the soil from its roots.It was then placed in a glass container, containing water . The Plant was held up by a created funnel .Thus allowing only its roots to be in water.The necessary observation and writing is done each day while observing the plant in water.The plant  will only receive sunlight .Its water is also changed each week.
