Condolences to half of Ruby

The water that Ruby was in , was just too brown and dirty so I decided to change it on Sunday then Monday morning my poor Ruby looked like the pictures below.

In my trauma my reasoning was that as Ruby tried to adapt to this new water environment the only way she could draw all the nutrients out of the one stem and transfer it to the other to be put to good use. Well that is what I  think could have happened. Please feel free to tell me what you think happened to my Ruby.
